PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — It’s a good day to be at the Calvert County Public Library. And apparently, an even better day to visit it.
The Calvert County Public Library presented its annual report for FY25 at the May 5 Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting. The library produces an annual report that highlights the community’s engagement with its services and resources. In addition, the library also recently completed a five-year strategic plan, making this an important annual update that reviewed the major investments by the county into the library over the last five years.
Executive Director Carrie Willson highlighted the “unprecedented usage” of the library and its resources in 2025. New and updated facilities and an expansion of in-person and digital resources led to 1.09 million checkouts in 2025, along with 57,000 event attendees and extremely high customer satisfaction. All of these factors point to a strong return on the county’s $7.7 million investment into the libraries. Willson attributed this success to robust programming, flexible community spaces and the staff.
However, Willson pointed out that while the programs and spaces have expanded, administrative numbers have not. While the library has been successful with a lean administrative staff, continuing on this path could impact regulatory compliance, grant compliance, branch coordination and more.
In the next year, the library is focused on community and learning, and capturing and preserving operational knowledge for the long term.
BOCC members expressed excitement over seeing the next strategic plan and continuing the library’s success.
