PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Beloved Calvert County mainstay the Calvert Marine Museum was granted approval on its 2027 fiscal year budget on Tuesday.
At the June 16 meeting, Calvert’s Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the museum’s FY27 budget in the total of $796,526. In a memo to the BOCC, the museum wrote that this is a balanced budget and is primarily funded by earned revenue. The budget also includes a budgeted transfer of $57,000 from the Calvert Marine Museum Society, the nonprofit organization that helps support the museum. Funding is supported solely by earned income and private funding and does not impact the county’s general fund.
County approval of the Calvert Marine Museum budget is part of Resolution 22-79, enabling legislation and governing documents, outlines the museum’s mission and objectives. The document establishes a Board of Governors in addition to authorizing the use of an internal budget.
According to a memo, the Board of Governors approved the budget on May 6. The museum also presented its strategic plan to the BOCC on May 5, with plans to expand and improve the property, maximize regional impact, ensure sustainability and make the museum a top destination.
The museum also recently secured a $1.09 million grant to acquire the waterfront parcel next to the property with plans to extend the boardwalk along the waterfront, expand water-based activities and increase public green space for outdoor festivals and events.
In addition to being known for its popular otters and educational programs, the Calvert Marine Museum hosts concerts throughout the year as part of its Waterside Music Series.
