The 2010-2014 Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and Sheriff Mike Evans were sworn in at an official ceremony marking the 66th annual swearing-in of County Commissioners on December 21, at the Calvert County Fairgrounds in Prince Frederick.

Commissioners Gerald W. โ€œJerryโ€ Clark (1st District), Pat Nutter (2nd District), Susan Shaw (2nd District), Evan K. Slaughenhoupt Jr. (3rd District) and Steven R. Weems (2nd District) along Sheriff Evans took the oath of office from Clerk of the Circuit Court Kathy P. Smith.

County Administrator Terry L. Shannon welcomed overย 200 guests including families of the commissioners, county dignitaries, local law enforcement, members of the school board and several Calvert County citizens. ย Following the welcome, Father Daly of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Prince Frederick blessed the historic ceremony with prayer.

Students from Patuxent High School NJROTC Honor Guard presented the colors followed by the National Anthem sung by Amy Gionfriddo of Calvert High and Anna Elkins of Northern High.

Master of Ceremonies Jack Upton introduced the all republican panel of five commissioners and county sheriff. Upton noted this is the first time in the history of Calvert County that an all republican party has been sworn in.

During the ceremony, Susan Shaw (2nd District) was voted President of County Commissioners in a 3-2 vote by her fellow constituents as Pat Nutter was voted Vice President of the board. Members of the Maryland Association of Counties Legislative Committee were also appointed and the holiday calendar was approved.

Concluding the historic ceremony was a benediction by Father Daly followed by a reception with holiday treats and Christmas music from students at Huntingtown High School.

The commissioners first meeting of 2011 will be Tuesday, Jan. 4.

The Board of County Commissioners meets on Tuesday’s beginning at 10:00 a.m. The meetings are held in the Commissionersโ€™ Hearing Room, 2nd floor of the County Courthouse, 175 Main Street, Prince Frederick.
