Maryland Commission on Public Health Survey

CALVERT COUNTY, Md. — Calvert residents have until July 9 to make their voices heard on the future of public health in Maryland.

The Maryland Commission on Public Health released a draft slate of recommendations in June, to be posted for 30 days to accept feedback from the public. Calvert residents are invited to review the document and submit their comments using a Google form.

The document covers areas of public health such as funding, health communications and workforce recommendations. Feedback from local communities helps public health officials see the full picture in those areas, which is crucial to gain a true set of diverse recommendations that work across the state.

Incorporating public commentary also helps officials stay accountable and maintain transparency through the process of adopting new guidelines.

In this draft set of recommendations, major ideas include:

  • Strengthening public health communications processes
  • Introducing youth to public health and health literacy
  • Strengthening data and IT infrastructure
  • Developing grant and sponsorship opportunities
  • Ensuring a strong and supported public health workforce

The feedback document breaks the commentary down into categories so Calvert residents can focus their feedback on each specific area. It’s not required to fill out every section — it’s entirely likely for people to have opinions on one part of the 27-page document and not another, given the variety of viewpoints across the state.

The form is open now for feedback.
