Kimberly Ruest is the 23 year old daughter of Dick and Bonnie Ruest of North Beach in Calvert County. She is a graduate of Northern High School.

Kimberly has received a new heart. First and foremost, Kimberly and her family wish to thank the donor family for their amazing gift, truly, the gift of life. Because of their unselfish gift, Kimberly is looking forward to a full life. Words cannot express our deepest thanks.

We would also like to thank the doctors and the medical staff at Johns Hopkins. Your skills and your caring have been wonderful and very much appreciated by all!

On   September 15th,  Doctors at Johns Hopkins notified the family that a donor heart had been located and that the surgery would be happening that night. She received the heart in the early morning hours on September 16th.

While there have been ups and downs following the surgery, Kim is doing well and has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. There are still many follow up procedures to endure. Kimberly has shown amazing strength through this ordeal, bolstered by the love and support of her parents and all the extended family.

In an effort to help Kimberly and her family bear all of the costs involved in her continuing care, the family has organized a fundraiser. On Tuesday, October 21, there will be a “Funds for Friends” event at the Greene Turtle in Prince Frederick, MD. The Greene Turtle will graciously donate 10% of their sales for that day to Kimberly and her family. Please join us for this wonderful event, have a good meal and help this worthy cause.

There will also be a silent auction from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please stop by and make a bid on the auction items. All the items have been donated by local businesses.

If you would like to make a donation, you can also go to www.gofundme.com/cse8go. Any amount you can give will be greatly appreciated and will be used solely to help with Kimberly’s care.
