LUSBY, MD — Operators at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant returned Unit 1 to full power today, ending a brief maintenance outage that began on Tuesday, May 31 at 4:26 p.m.
Before returning the unit to service, technicians replaced and fully tested a failed electrical component that protects the main turbine from steam moisture. Unit 2 remained at full power throughout the Unit 1 outage.
Calvert Cliffs is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County and is Maryland’s only nuclear energy facility. The station is home to two pressurized water reactors capable of generating 1,756 megawatts combined. Units 1 and 2 began commercial operation in 1975 and 1977, respectively.
