LUSBY, MD โ€” Operators at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant returned Unit 1 to full power today, ending a brief maintenance outage that began on Tuesday, May 31 at 4:26 p.m.

Before returning the unit to service, technicians replaced and fully tested a failed electrical component that protects the main turbine from steam moisture. Unit 2 remained at full power throughout the Unit 1 outage.

Calvert Cliffs is located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in Calvert County and is Marylandโ€™s only nuclear energy facility.ย  The station is home to two pressurized water reactors capable of generating 1,756 megawatts combined. Units 1 and 2 began commercial operation in 1975 and 1977, respectively.
