GAITHERSBURG, Md. — A car split in half after veering off Interstate 270 early Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, prompting an overnight search by first responders who later found the driver walking nearby, uninjured, officials said.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer said crews were dispatched around 2:30 a.m. to the northbound lanes of I-270 near Exit 10, where they found a heavily damaged blue vehicle that had gone off the roadway into the woods.
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to search the area but located no occupants. Gaithersburg Police later found the driver walking along Montgomery Village Avenue, unharmed.
No other vehicles were involved. The crash remains under investigation.
