CCSO Officer Airlifted To Trauma Center After Accidental Shooting At Firing Range

CHARLOTTE HALL, Md. — A Charles County Sheriff’s Office officer suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in an accidental shooting at the Southern Maryland Correction Facility on May 22, 2024.

Emergency personnel responded to the facility, located at 14320 Oaks Road in Charlotte Hall, at approximately 8:49 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found the 43-year-old male officer and applied a tourniquet at the scene.

Maryland State Police, Trooper 7, was requested and a landing zone was established nearby by firefighters.

The officer was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma Center for treatment. According to a preliminary report from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, the officer’s firearm discharged accidentally at the firing range striking him in the leg.

  1. Super Troopers- the bullet must’ve ricocheted off the steel cup and hit the officer in the leg. No more shenanigans!!

    1. He was released with a flesh wound. But there is no update on the negligence investigation.
