Cpl. Gary Holt, Juvenile Intervention officer, coordinated three events at the school in May. Officers, students, family members, school faculty, and business and community members participated in a Bike-A-Thon, Walk-A-Thon and tee shirt sales.

โ€œAll of the students were eager to raise money for the Special Olympics,” said Cpl. Holt. “They had fun and look forward to participating next year.โ€

Sheriff Coffey said that itโ€™s important for the Sheriffโ€™s Office to take a role in coordinating these types of events with students.

โ€œAs officers, we have the opportunity to serve as role models and teach children the importance of getting involved. Cpl. Holt did a great job rallying the students together with our partners in the business and community to make this fundraiser a success.โ€

Pizza Hot Line and Coca-Cola of La Plata provided food and drinks.
