Charles County Sheriff Rex W. Coffey is pleased to announce that through events coordinated by the CCSO Juvenile Intervention office, students at Piccowaxen Middle School raised over $1,500 for the Maryland Special Olympics.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
Cpl. Gary Holt, Juvenile Intervention officer, coordinated three events at the school in May. Officers, students, family members, school faculty, and business and community members participated in a Bike-A-Thon, Walk-A-Thon and tee shirt sales.
โAll of the students were eager to raise money for the Special Olympics,” said Cpl. Holt. “They had fun and look forward to participating next year.โ
Sheriff Coffey said that itโs important for the Sheriffโs Office to take a role in coordinating these types of events with students.
โAs officers, we have the opportunity to serve as role models and teach children the importance of getting involved. Cpl. Holt did a great job rallying the students together with our partners in the business and community to make this fundraiser a success.โ
Pizza Hot Line and Coca-Cola of La Plata provided food and drinks.
