LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Cedar Point Federal Credit Union is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2025 with a yearlong initiative, “80 Acts of Service for 80 Years,” aimed at giving back to the communities it has proudly served since 1945.
Originally chartered to serve Navy sailors and civil servants at the Patuxent Naval Air Test Station in Patuxent River, Md., following World War II, Cedar Point Federal Credit Union expanded its mission in 2009 by adopting a community charter, extending services to residents of Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties.
To mark the milestone, the credit union has launched one of its largest community outreach efforts to date. Throughout 2025, Cedar Point will complete 80 acts of service—ranging from educational support and food assistance to environmental initiatives—to reflect each year of its operation. Community members are encouraged to submit ideas for volunteer projects or ways the credit union can offer meaningful support to local individuals and organizations.
Total Acts of Service Completed – 69
So far, Cedar Point has helped numerous local organizations through collection drives, volunteer work, and financial support. A few of the organizations that have received assistance over the year include the Cinderella Society, the St. Mary’s Public School Shoe Fund, Ladies of Charity Calvert County, Solomons Mission Center and local animal shelters throughout Southern Maryland.

Beyond its anniversary campaign, Cedar Point continues to invest in Southern Maryland through a wide array of youth-focused and charitable programs.
Cedar Point offers an annual Youth Scholarship to support graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education, reinforcing its commitment to academic achievement and financial empowerment.
The credit union is also hosting a seasonal food drive through Nov. 14, accepting nonperishable food donations at all branches to support local shelters across the region. The drive is part of Cedar Point’s broader efforts to address food insecurity in the communities it serves.

Cedar Point continues to demonstrate that it is more than just a financial institution, especially during times of hardship. In response to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the credit union is offering several forms of member assistance, including paycheck relief loans, loan skip-a-pay options, low-rate credit cards, financial counseling services, and penalty-free withdrawals from certificate accounts. These resources are offered on a case-by-case basis to help furloughed workers and others facing financial strain.

Cedar Point employees also volunteer throughout the year at events such as Christmas in April, the Solomons Dragon Boat Races, and the St. Mary’s River Watershed Association’s Riverfest. Many staff members extend their service beyond the workplace by mentoring students, supporting local 4-H programs, participating in community cleanups, and serving on nonprofit boards.
In recognition of its continued dedication to social responsibility, Cedar Point received the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award from the MD|DC Credit Union Association in 2019.
