LA PLATA, Md. — Charles County Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins II announced plans to request a briefing at the March 25 meeting on the establishment of an independent County Inspector General’s Office.
Collins introduced the proposal during the new business portion of the Board of Commissioners meeting on Feb. 25, stating that the request stems from ongoing community conversations and indirect discussions among commissioners. The proposed office would function as an independent body tasked with auditing county government, improving program effectiveness, and investigating fraud, abuse, and complaints against elected officials.
“This initiative will save and protect our residents’ tax money,” Collins said. “It is the result of conversations we’ve all heard throughout the community, and I believe this is a project the entire board is interested in pursuing.”
Collins will formally request a briefing and draft proposed legislation to amend the county code during the March 25 meeting. That evening, at 6 p.m., the Board of County Commissioners has a joint town hall meeting scheduled.

How about a DOGE team. Looks like the entire state could use one. I, for one, would love to know how we went from being 8M in the black to 6M in the hole.
Thank you, Commissioner Collins, for proposing the establishment of an Inspector General for Charles County, Maryland. Your commitment to accountability and transparency is truly appreciated!
Just goes to show Charles County citizens don’t need a Charter form of government to have an Inspector General. Might want to add something about Removal of a Commissioner, too.
