Charles County Parks joins the American Hiking Society in their nationwide celebration of our great outdoors and recreational trails. On Saturday, June 5, 2010, we invite residents to join us in one of several organized events geared toward the enjoyment and appreciation of Charles County’s wonderful natural resources and public trails.
Indian Head Rail Tail
White Plains Trail Head: 9 a.m – 12 p.m.
Participate in a day to promote physical activities and trails nationwide. Enjoy the Indian Head Rail Trail through bicycling, walking or running on this scenic trail. Giveaways, snacks and drinks will be provided. Charles County Parks encourages fitness through the use of all our parks and trails in the county. Our cosponsor, the Health Department, looks forward to promoting trail day through healthy activity and nutrition as they do through many of their programs such as “We Can”.
Maxwell Hall Park Horse Trail
Maxwell Hall, Benedict: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Southern Maryland equestrians are invited to discover and enjoy 14 miles of diverse riding trails. In observance of National Trails Day, the required annual membership fee will be waived (this date only). Take advantage of this opportunity to explore Southern Maryland’s newest equestrian trail. Mallows Bay Park – Canoe/Kayak Trip
Route 224, Nanjemoy: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m
Co-sponsored and guided by the Calvert Marine Museum’s Canoe/Kayak Club, paddlers will visit the sunken ship “Ghost Fleet” at Mallows Bay. This historic ship graveyard is the largest in North America and is part of the Lower Potomac River Water Trail. Observe bald eagles, explore protected creeks and/or hit the main river for fossil hunting opportunities.
