LA PLATA, Md. – Since the first COVID-19 patient arrived at UM Charles Regional Medical Center earlier this year, the hospital has committed all available resources to care for its patients and support its workforce on the frontlines.
The challenge has been enormous, and so the Charles Regional Medical Center Foundation launched its “Hope Starts at Home” campaign to raise funds for the CRMC Resiliency Fund. As of mid-June, the campaign surpassed the halfway mark toward its goal of raising $150,000 to support this critical mission.
“We could not be more grateful for the generous contributions of so many people and organizations,” said Susan Mudd Vogel, Executive Director of the Foundation. “As conditions begin to slowly improve, it’s important to remember that health and safety efforts continue inside the hospital, and resources are still critically needed.”

The website provides numerous gift options and shares some of the ways that contributions are being used to support patients and staff, such as:
• Tyvek isolation suits and critical personal protective equipment
• Disposable masks, gowns and gloves
• Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) for frontline caregivers
• “Healthy Lungs = Healthy You” kits for recovering COVID-19 patients
• Employee Assistance Fund to assist staff who may be experiencing new financial burdens
The mission of the CRMC Foundation is to enhance the medical center’s financial resources so it may provide excellent health care services to all members of the community.
