LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A serious impaired-driving crash that left a minor with life-threatening injuries has resulted in a guilty plea and jail sentence, according to court records in St. Mary’s County. Authorities say the case was investigated following a June 2025 incident in Hollywood.
According to court proceedings, Richard Earl Jett Jr., 21, of Charlotte Hall, pleaded guilty to life-threatening injury by motor vehicle while under the influence and reckless driving stemming from a crash that occurred on June 30, 2025. Investigators determined that Jett was operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol when the collision occurred, resulting in life-threatening injuries to a minor victim.
The case proceeded through the court system over several months before reaching a resolution in early 2026. During court proceedings, Jett entered a guilty plea to the charges related to impaired driving and reckless operation of a motor vehicle connected to the crash.
On Feb. 26, 2026, a judge imposed a three-year jail sentence for the life-threatening injury offense. The sentence was suspended except for six months of incarceration. In addition, Jett was ordered to serve five years of probation related to the reckless driving charge following his release from incarceration.

That’s not a sentence! Judge’s need to start protecting the innocent.
6 months for nearly killing a child. I can’t believe there’s even more members of this famous family out there.
JFC he almost killed a kid drunk driving and he only gets 6 months. WTF he is practically smirking in the photo. If it was my kid he injured, I would be losing my mind.
