ST. LEONARD, MD (May 22, 2017) – Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM) recently announced Sophie Arness as the winner of the 2nd Annual Children’s Day on the Farm Artwork Contest.ย Sophie is 11 years old and attends Mutual Elementary School in Port Republic.
Since 1986, the Children’s Day on the Farm event is commemorated with a 3 x 4 magnetized metal dash plaque designed by the JPPM marketing department. JPPM introduction of the artwork contest was to solicit new and fresh ideas for the dash plaque.ย The inaugural Children’s Day on the Farm Artwork Contest was open to the public, private and homeschooled middle-grade students.ย The contest was later expanded to include elementary grade students.ย Artwork submissions are accepted starting in January.
ย All submissions are required to highlight some aspect of Maryland’s rich agricultural heritage.ย The winning submission is not only featured on the commemorative dash plaque but is also featured on the Children’s Day on the Farm event tee shirt and other event marketing collateral. All winning artwork is framed and hangs on display inside the JPPM Visitor Center.
