MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — The Clements Cuties Softball Showdown will return to St. Mary’s County on Saturday, Sept. 12, bringing the community together to raise money for three local children facing cancer and other serious illnesses.
The annual fundraiser will be held at the Mechanicsville Moose Lodge, 27636 Mechanicsville Road. Gates will open at 11 a.m., and admission will be accepted by donation.
This year’s event will support three children and their families:
- Nolan Rios, 8, who is battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia, also known as ALL.
- Elena Harris, 4, who is battling B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
- Opal Slack, 1, who is battling neonatal sclerosing cholangitis, a rare liver disease.
Proceeds will help pay medical expenses, fulfill individual wishes for grant recipients and fund scholarships established in memory of children previously honored by the foundation.
A Full Day Of Softball And Community Activities
The women’s all-star softball game will begin at noon, followed by the men’s all-star game at 2 p.m. The children being honored, known as the “Cuties,” are scheduled to arrive at 4 p.m.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to secure parking and seating. Outside coolers will not be permitted.
Food will be available from Pizza Hotline, Grill Sergeant BBQ, IWB Hot Dog Stand and Did Someone Say Funnel Cake.
Following the games, the celebration will continue with a 21-and-older after-party featuring live music from Unfinished Business.
A Local Tradition With A Charitable Mission
The Clements Cuties began with a group of St. Mary’s County men’s softball players who dressed in costumes and played charity games during the 1970s, providing laughter and comic relief while raising money for local causes.
A second generation revived the group in 2012. In 2016, the organization shifted its focus toward helping children battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
Since making that transition, the Clements Cuties Foundation has provided financial assistance to the families of 25 children in the community. With three additional children selected as its 2026 recipients, the organization will have supported 28 local children and their families.
The foundation typically assists two or three families each year, helping with needs that can include medical bills, travel expenses, lodging costs and special wishes for children facing serious health challenges.
The Clements Cuties Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and contributions are tax-deductible.
Sponsors Sought For 2026 Mission
The foundation is seeking businesses, organizations and individuals interested in sponsoring its 2026 recipients and fundraising efforts.
Sponsors may contribute at any level, and donations will directly support local children and their families. Those completing a sponsorship form may also designate their contribution for a specific child.
