LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — After weeks of anticipation and a postponed opening date, Jersey Mike’s Subs is officially serving customers in Lexington Park.
The sandwich shop opened Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 21841 Three Notch Road, Suite 112, in the redeveloped Pax River Village Center. The restaurant is located near Gate 2 of Naval Air Station Patuxent River, along one of St. Mary’s County’s busiest commercial corridors.
By Friday evening, employees were busy preparing orders as customers explored the new restaurant and settled into its coastal-inspired dining area.
The interior pays tribute to the company’s roots in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, where the original Mike’s Subs opened in 1956. Photographs, seaside imagery and a large Point Pleasant mural carry that history into the Lexington Park location.

From Cold Subs To Grilled Cheese Steaks
The restaurant’s menu includes cold subs, club subs, hot cheese steaks, grilled chicken cheese steaks, wraps and catering options.
Customers can watch as employees slice meats and cheeses at the counter or prepare hot sandwiches on the grill. Bread is baked inside Jersey Mike’s restaurants, and orders are assembled individually for each customer.
Cold subs can be ordered “Mike’s Way,” with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, an olive oil blend, red wine vinegar and spices. According to Jersey Mike’s, the preparation style is based on the recipe used at the original sandwich shop.

The menu includes familiar selections such as the Original Italian, Turkey and Provolone, Club Sub, Famous Philly and Chipotle Cheese Steak. Customers looking for a hot chicken option can choose from sandwiches including the Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak and Chicken Bacon Ranch Cheese Steak.
During The BayNet’s visit, two young customers shared the No. 26 Chicken Bacon Ranch Cheese Steak. The hot sub combines grilled chicken, bacon, ranch dressing and melted cheese.
Judging by the nearly empty wrapper and their enthusiastic reactions, the sandwich quickly earned their approval.

Opening Date Changed During Final Preparations
The BayNet previously reported that Jersey Mike’s was expected to open July 29. However, the opening was delayed while final preparations continued at the new restaurant.
Shasho Consulting, P.A., Commercial Real Estate later announced that the opening had been moved to Aug. 19. The company also listed the restaurant’s address as Suite 112 within Pax River Village Center.
The opening marks another step in the continuing redevelopment of the longtime Lexington Park shopping center.
Future tenants announced for the property include Starbucks and Quickway Japanese Hibachi. Planet Fitness has also been announced as part of the larger redevelopment project.
The combination of restaurants, retail businesses and fitness options is expected to serve nearby residents as well as the thousands of military members, civilian employees and commuters who travel through the area surrounding NAS Patuxent River.

A Brand With Jersey Shore Roots
Jersey Mike’s traces its history to a small sandwich shop that opened in Point Pleasant in 1956. Peter Cancro began working at the original shop as a teenager and purchased the business in 1975 when he was 17.

The company has since expanded to more than 3,200 restaurants in the United States and Canada, according to Jersey Mike’s.
Despite that national growth, the company continues to build its menu around fresh-sliced cold subs and cheese steaks grilled to order.
For Lexington Park customers, those sandwiches are now available without leaving the Gate 2 corridor.
