Hollywood, MD – The following are the latest weather-related announcements for the Southern Maryland region.

Calvert County

Calvert County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, Jan. 5. Code Yellow for 12-mo. employees.

Calvert County government offices and circuit court will remain closed tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 5, due to continued frigid temperatures, wind-driven snow drifts, black ice conditions and hypothermia threats.The Calvert County Department of Public Safety strongly urges all citizens to stay off the roads tonight and tomorrow morning until crews can adequately clear and treat the roads.

“The plummeting temperatures will not be our friend tonight,” explained Calvert County Board of County Commissioners’ President Evan Slaughenhoupt. “We urge citizens to stay off the roads. If you must travel use extreme caution. Our crews are experiencing treacherous black ice conditions this evening as well as hyperthermia threats, and the sub-zero temperatures haven’t even arrived yet.” Slaughenhoupt added, “Please, exercise good judgement. This is a serious situation.”

The following Calvert County services are affected by the closure: All Calvert County government offices are closed Jan. 5; The Calvert County Circuit Court is closed Jan. 5, District Court is closed Jan. 5, County bus service is not available Jan. 5; All county Parks and Recreation activities, rentals and programs are canceled for Jan. 5; The county’s community centers, nature center, parks, the Chesapeake Hills Golf Course and the Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center are closed Jan. 5, County convenience centers and the Appeal Landfill are closed Jan. 5, Calvert County libraries are closed Jan. 5, The Calvert Marine Museum will be closed Jan. 5. Residents are urged to visit the county website Emergency Alerts link to register for the notification service.

Charles County

Due to inclement weather conditions, all Charles County public schools are closed Friday, Jan. 5, 2018. There is a code two, which is a two-hour delay, for staff who follow the code system.

Due to inclement weather, Charles County Government will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5 with the liberal leave policy in effect for all non-essential employees.

The following facilities and services will begin operations at 10 a.m.:
• Crain Memorial Welcome Center
• Charles County Circuit Court and District Court
• Charles County Health Department

The following facilities and services will be closed:
• Nanjemoy Community Center
• All senior centers
• Meals on Wheels program
• All school-based community centers
• Lackey High School, Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center, and North Point High School indoor pools.
• Charles County Public Schools and activities
• College of Southern Maryland (all campuses)

The following facilities will operate on time:
• Charles County Landfill, Landfill Recycling Center, and Pisgah Recycling Center
• Elite Gymnastics and Recreation Center
• Port Tobacco Recreation Center
• Charles County Public Library (all branches)

St. Mary’s County

St. Mary’s County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, January 5, 2018. Employee Code 3. No employees should report to work. Administrative leave will be provided for 12 month employees.

All St. Mary’s County Administrative Offices will open at 10 a.m. Non-Public School transportation will not operate. All Recreation and Parks programs operating in the Public Schools are cancelled. Recreation and Parks facilities will open at 10 a.m. However, the Great Mills Swimming Pool and Gymnastics Center are closed for mechanical repairs. STS Transit will not operate until noon at the earliest. A final determination will be made later this morning. The six (6) Convenience Centers and St, Andrews Landfill will open at noon. All three Senior Activity Centers (Garvey, Loffler and Northern) will open at 10 a.m. However, there will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries or meals served at the centers. All St. Mary’s County Library locations (Charlotte Hall, Leonardtown & Lexington Park) will open at 10 a.m.

St. Mary’s County Circuit Courthouse will open at 9 a.m. Court session will begin at 10 a.m.

St. Mary’s County District Courthouse will open at noon, Court session will begin at 1 p.m.

All College of Southern Maryland campuses are closed

NAS Patuxent River/NRC Solomons is open for normal operations.

On Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 Webster Field will open for normal operations at 12 p.m.

NAS Patuxent River is open with the option for unscheduled leave, telework, or leave without pay (LWOP). Critical personnel must report to work as scheduled. Check with your command for specific guidance.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland is closed Jan. 5.

St. Mary’s County Government will open at 10:00am this morning, including all Recreation & Parks facilities and programs.  All programs scheduled in public schools today are canceled.
The R&P facilities includes the following: Leonard Hall Rec Center, Margaret Brent Rec Center, Carver Rec Center, Hollywood Rec Center, Chancellor’s Run, Piney Point & St. Clements Island Museums, Riverview Restaurant and Wicomico Shores Golf Course. 

The Great Mills Swimming Pool and the Gymnastics Center will remain closed for previously identified mechanical issues.
