COBB ISLAND, Md. — Residents and visitors will once again be able to enjoy outdoor wine and beer tastings at Cobb Island Public Market after the Charles County Board of License Commissioners approved a temporary expansion of the market’s licensed premises for several events this summer.
The approval allows tastings to be held in a designated outdoor area adjacent to the market at 1705 Cobb Island Road.
During the June 11 hearing, attorney David Martinez told board members the tastings have been held successfully for the past two summers without any reported issues. Market owner Christopher Coyle said the events have become a popular gathering opportunity for local residents and visitors.
Under the approved plan, a portion of the parking area will be temporarily closed and enclosed for the tastings. Guests will be able to sample products sold by the market, including beer and wine offered through participating vendors whose products are available in the store.
If attendees wish to purchase products featured during the tastings, they will be required to make those purchases inside the market.
Board members asked questions about safety and event operations, including the location of the tasting area and the number of samples offered to guests. Coyle said the market has not experienced any issues during previous tasting events.
The board unanimously approved the temporary expansion for the following dates:
- June 26, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- July 10, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- July 31, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Aug. 21, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Sept. 4, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Sept. 25, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Cobb Island Public Market is located at 1705 Cobb Island Road in Cobb Island.

Since when has Cobb Island needed approval to drink in public? It’s always seemed like requirement, especially while driving our golf carts from porch-bar to porch-bar.
