If you have been a regular at Calvert Library Tuesday Tunes in May, please adjust your calendar. In an effort to ward off the winter doldrums (and hopefully any big event-canceling storms), Calvert Library will be offering their new music series, Winter Interludes on various weeknights this winter. Accomplished local artist Courtlyn Carr and Baltimore based, emmy-nominated Ellen Cherry are the singer/songwriters headlining shows on Thursday, January 19, 2012 and Wednesday, February 29, 2012 respectively. The two ensemble acts included in the winter concert series are local dance-band favorite “2-4-U Band” and the United States Naval Academy’s “Electric Brigade” on Thursday, February 16, 2012 and Thursday, March 29, 2012 respectively. All the concerts will take place at Calvert Library Prince Frederick at 7pm.
Local country artist Courtlyn Carr comes back home to play for her hometown friends and fans. A graduate of prestigious Berklee College of Music, she has now moved to Nashville, Tennessee where she has been playing hotspots like the famous Blue Bird Café, and sharing the stage with hit songwriters and artists like Lorrie Morgan, Ty Herndon and Linda Davis. She made a visit home to open for Martina McBride at the Calvert Marine Museum. Now see Courtlyn at Calvert Library Prince Frederick on Thursday, January 19, 2012.
The Electric Brigade (EB) is the Navy’s premier popular music ensemble and the U.S. Naval Academy’s musical ambassadors to the nation. Made of up enlisted sailors EB provides entertainment for formal occasions, pep rallies and everything in between. Since forming in 1979 Electric Brigade has performed as far north as Iceland all the way down to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Expect all ages to be tapping their feet while the group shows off their repertoire of modern pop, classic rock, country, disco, swing, hip-hop, soul and more. See Electric Brigade at Calvert Library Prince Frederick on Thursday, February 16, 2012.
Soulful singer/songwriter Ellen Cherry classifies her music as, “spunky downer pop…for smartypants.” The Baltimore artist is a hard working full-timer. She has licensed her music to the Oxygen Network, MTV and Soap.net. In 2009 she wrote, recorded and performed a TV campaign for the FOX Networks and even composed the score for a shadow puppet piece entitled “Alonzo’s Lullaby” that won the prestigious UNIMA Citation of Excellence. She was awarded Maryland State Arts Council’s Individual Artist Award for Vocal Performance (2007) and Music Composition (2009). See Ellen at Calvert Library Prince Frederick February 29, 2012. The 2-4-U Band is an energetic husband and wife team performing oldies, rock-n-roll, swing, and classic country hits.
The 2-4-U band hails from Calvert County and has been performing for the past 20 years. Bring your dancing shoes because we are clearing space and expecting a Macarena and more!
