LA PLATA, Md. – Charles County Commissioners are pleased to announce that the Maryland’s operating budget for next year includes $13 million that is designated to construct for expansion of the US Route 301/MD Route 5 interchange. The improvements are anticipated to relieve traffic congestion, strengthen area businesses, and improve the quality of life for our county residents and commuters in the region. The funding is contingent on Governor Larry Hogan’s final approval of the project and appropriation of funds for the project.

“We are grateful to the members of the General Assembly, our local delegation, and the many stakeholder groups in our community who have advocated for making this project a reality,” said President Commissioner Peter F. Murphy. “We appreciate the strong working relationship we have with Governor Hogan and look forward to working with him on this project.”

He continued, “The completion of this interchange complements the proactive transportation policies and planning by our Board of County Commissioners. Our efforts to work together on the completion of the Western Parkway and the development of the proposed interchange at US 301/MD 5 will create an improved gateway into Charles County.”
