On July 27, family, friends and local business representatives gathered at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) to announce the establishment of the Louis P. Jenkins Sr. Endowment Fund.

The Louis P. Jenkins Sr. Endowment Fund was established to honor his years of service to both the college and the community. A former board of trustee for the college from 1970 to 1992, Jenkins was elected chair in 1970 and was the college’s longest-serving board chair with 22 years of dedicated service. During his tenure, five buildings were planned, designed and constructed on the La Plata Campus and work on the Health and Technology, Center for Business and Industry, Campus Center and the College Bookstore began. Jenkins also played a key role in the expansion of the college’s services in neighboring St. Mary’s and Calvert counties.

To be eligible for the Louis P. Jenkins, Sr. Endowment Fund students must be a tri-county resident enrolled in a CSM academic program and must demonstrate financial need. Awards will be distributed through the CSM’s financial aid office. For information about the Jenkins Endowment Fund contact 301-934-7604 or csmfoundation@csmd.edu.
