Patuxent River, MD —  UPDATE 08/21 – the detonation has been postponed.

Don’t be alarmed if you hear a very loud noise on Wednesday.

The Naval Air Station Patuxent River will be conducting a single controlled explosion detonation of suspected unexploded ordnance off the southeast coast of Bloodsworth Island in the Chesapeake Bay.

The big bang will happen between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21. Boaters are asked to stay a minimum of  756 feet offshore from the southeast portion of the island and to keep out of the way of an official watercraft.

EOD, Pax River Search and Rescue, and Atlantic Test Ranges personnel will there to secure the area before the explosion happens.

NAS Patuxent River says there is no danger from the explosion to the public, but the sound may be heard in surrounding communities.
