Charles County has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority to augment the Indian Head Rails-to-Trails development project.ย  The project ranked #1 in the Southern Maryland region and received one of the highest Heritage Program funding allocations in the State.ย  The County also received a commendation for the quality of its grant application.

โ€œWe are very pleased to receive this generous grant,โ€ said Commissioner Vice President Edith J. Patterson (District 2).ย  โ€œThe additional revenue will benefit the Indian Head project, which will be
an outstanding recreational outlet in Charles County.โ€

The Indian Head trail site is 13 miles long and stretches from White Plains to Indian Head.ย  The picturesque nature path will be an excellent outdoor recreational venue that will allow hikers and bikers a
breathtaking adventure through a portion of Charles County.ย 

The grant will used to help finish engineering services, purchase security bollards for road crossings and for the installation of trail surface materials.
