The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs scored the final seven runs of the ballgame to defeat the Bridgeport Bluefish by the final score of 7-4 and win the rubber match of their three-game series.
In a 4-4 game in the bottom of the 8th, Mike Schwartz led off with a single and moved to second on a hit by Jamar Walton. That set the stage for Allan de San Miguel who gave the Blue Crabs their first lead of the day with a three-run home run, his fifth of the season.
Bridgeport jumped out to an early lead in the first few innings. James Simmons led off the game with his 19th home run of the season, most on the team. Prentice Redman would add a long ball of his own in the 3rd inning as his three-run blast extended the Bluefish lead to 4-0.
Southern Maryland would respond with four runs of their own to tie the game in the bottom of the 3rd. Jermaine Mitchell and Cyle Hankerd hit consecutive RBI singles to cut the deficit in half. Later in the inning, C.J. Ziegler drove in a run with a single and Schwartz followed with a bases-loaded walk to tie the game 4-4.
The Blue Crabs head on the road to begin a three-game series against the Long Island Ducks on Tuesday at 7:05. Southern Maryland returns home to face the Bridgeport Bluefish for three games starting Friday September 12 at 7:05.
