WALDORF, MD – Despite Blue Crabsโ starting pitcher Daryl Thompsonโs outstanding performance on Saturday night the Crabโs couldnโt muster enough offense to come up with the win and fell to the York Revs 5-2 at Regency Furniture Stadium.ย Thompson struck out a season high 13 batters, while throwing seven strong outings.ย
The Blue Crabs took the early lead in the third inning after Jon Dziomba crossed home by an RBI single hit by Kuan-Jen Chen and then Eric Garcia came home by a Bryant Nelson RBI ground out.
Of the first 14 outs, 11 were strikeouts for Thompson in the first 4 2/3 innings but the Revs broke the ice in the fifth getting on the board with a double by Salvador Paniagua and an RBI single by Travis Witherspoon.
Yorkโs Michael Burgess clubbed a solo home run in the seventh inning off Thompson.ย Thompson left the game, tied 2-2 after pitching an impressive seven innings, striking out 13 batters allowing six hits, two earned runs and one walk.
Blue Crabs reliever Brian Grening replaced Thompson but lasted only two-thirds of inning and gave up a two run homer to Alfredo Marte taking the lead for the first time 4-2.
The Revs pushed across another run in the top of the ninth when Josh Wilson reached first on a single off reliever Orlando Santos, stole second and scored on a throwing error by Eric Garcia.
The Blue Crabs tried mounting a lead in the ninth inning when Michael Snyder walked and Norberto Susini hit a long double to center field. Snyder ran to third but injured himself on the way there and manager Jeremy Owens came in to pinch run. But the opportunity was squandered after Dziomba grounded out to second to end the game as the Blue Crabs fell 5-2.
