Lothian, MD – On Sept. 12 at approximately 7:58 a.m., officers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Solomons Island Road (MD Route 2) just north of Bay Front Road (MD Route 258) in Lothian. A Ford Focus was northbound on Solomons Island Road attempting to turn left into the Park & Ride located in the 5700 block. The Ford Focus was struck from the rear by the Chrysler 200, which was also travelling north. This collision caused the Ford Focus to enter the southbound lane of travel. The Ford Focus was then struck on the passenger side of the vehicle by a commercial box truck travelling southbound. The driver of the Ford Focus was pronounced deceased by Fire Department personnel on scene. The occupants of the other two vehicles were transported to local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.
The motorist who died in the crash was identified by the Anne Arundel County Police Department as Evelyn Marie Settle, 56 of Lothian. The driver of the Chrysler was identified by police as Emily Morgan Fishback, 22 of Friendship. The operator of the box truck was identified by police as John Leroy Keister, 52 of Stevensville.
The preliminary cause of the crash appears to be failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The Traffic Safety Section is handing the investigation and any charges will be after review by the States Attorney.
