Patuxent Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the first home to be completed in their Fenwick Ridge subdivision in Lexington Park on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 1:30 p.m. The home recipients, the Shreve Family, are looking forward to finally becoming owners of a decent, affordable house.
Joining the PHH Board and Staff at the dedication will be representatives of the St. Maryโs Apostles Build Covenant Partner Churches, local businesses and volunteers who helped support and construct the new home.
This house is the first house to be built under PHHโs Green Building Advisory Committee recommendations for a more environmentally sustainable home. Energy saving measures include: a geothermal heating and cooling system; house orientation to take advantage of seasonal solar patterns, Low E windows; extra insulation; Hardy-plank type siding; longer life roofing materials; and Energy Star appliances. The house also includes a full basement and a fire sprinkler system. All of these features will be identified throughout the house during the dedication.
The Fenwick Ridge neighborhood, located south of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station, was established by PHH through a generous donation of land from the St. Maryโs County Government. Many local businesses have contributed generously to getting the subdivision prepared for building.ย
A second PHH home sponsored by Dean Lumber Supply and Cornerstone Presbyterian Church is currently under construction on the adjacent lot.
