Daniel Raymond Posey III
La Plata, MD – Daniel Raymond Posey III, 24 of Nanjemoy, indicted February 2015 for the August 2011 murder of 29-year-old Crystal Keyona Anderson, was in Charles County Circuit Court Tuesday, June 14, and Assistant Stateโs Attorney Frank Granados was not happy.
Before Judge H. James West, Granados accused Posey of intimidating witnesses not to testify when the case goes to trial later this fall.
โSince the defendant received discovery in this case in June of 2015, he has systematically attempted to tamper with certain witnesses in this case,โ Granados asserted.
Granados said that in addition to phone calls, letters and video visits, Posey attempted to bribe one of the witnesses not to testify.
He said his office combed through hours of phone conversations and letters written by the defendant in order to form its conclusions that Posey was trying to influence witnesses in the case.
โThere are a number of phone calls where he attempted to reach out to witnesses in the case, asking them not to come to court,โ Granados stated. โHe attempted to intimidate witnesses and to bribe witnesses.
โAt times, there were five to seven calls a day,โ he stated.
He added that the bulk of the calls went to Lloyd Jackson.
โHe is a witness,โ Granados said. โWhat he has to say is very powerful.โ
At one point, he noted, Posey attempted to kill himself, telling Jackson, โI killed people. My life is over.โ
He said Posey would call a friend, who would then initiate a three-way call between himself, the friend and the witness.
โHe told the witness, โI know what you said,โ โ Granados explained. โHe said, โwe got to get through this. I know what you said. Donโt do that. Follow the code.โ โ
โThe witness told him, โIโm not taking the stand,โ โ he added. โObviously, what Mr. Posey said had the desired effect.โ
In one conversation, Posey allegedly told someone to relay a message to one of the witnesses he would pay him $10,000 if he didnโt come to court.
He asked that the defendant be placed in isolation where his ability to contact witnesses would be limited.
Poseyโs attorney, Chase Johnson, denied the stateโs allegations, saying he had problems with the accusations against his client.
โThe state is interpreting and interjecting,โ Johnson said. โThere isnโt any intent to disrupt court proceedings,โ he added.
West said he would need to read and listen to the audio evidence before making a decision.
He is expected to rule on the stateโs motion Monday, June 20.
