motor vehicle accident in southern maryland

LA PLATA, Md. — A vehicle collided with a utility pole and fire hydrant Thursday evening in La Plata, sending one woman to the hospital and causing water to gush into the roadway.

The crash occurred just before 8 p.m., May 29, 2025 at the intersection of Port Tobacco Road and Quailwood Parkway. Emergency crews arriving on scene confirmed the hydrant was broken and requested assistance from La Plata town public works.

The female driver was transported to UM Charles Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
