At 1:48 p.m. on September 8, Charles County Sheriffโs officers responded to the 600 block of Wicomico Street in La Plata for the report of a school bus crash.
Investigation revealed Charles County School Bus #519 was traveling east on Wicomico Street when the bus struck a ditch in the roadway causing it to bounce violently and knocking the driver, Tammy Sue Selock, 37, of Waldorf, from the driverโs seat. Selock fell into the busโs stairwell.
The bus – now with no driver behind the wheel –ย swerved off the roadway, struck a curb, continued along a dirt median and struck an ambulance parked at Civista Medical Center.
The ambulance was occupied by the driver, Robert Louis Ward, Jr., 31, of La Plata, the front seat passenger, Pamela Evans Smith 45, of Port Republic and one passenger in the rear of the ambulance, Heather Marie Tunney, 22.
The ambulance crew was treated at Civista Medical Center and released with minor injuries.
Selock was also treated at Civista Medical Center and released with minor injuries.
The bus was not transporting children at the time of the crash and Selock was not wearing a seatbelt.
Officer R. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit is investigating.
