WELCOME, Md. — Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a dump truck that left the roadway and struck a tree early Thursday morning in Charles County.
The incident was reported at 6:11 a.m. on April 9, 2026, in the 8100 block of Annapolis Woods Road in Welcome. Initial reports indicated the driver of a large dump truck had gone off the road and was continuously sounding the horn, raising concerns about a possible medical emergency.
Upon arrival, responders found the dump truck had collided with a tree, causing significant damage. Authorities reported the crash resulted in a diesel fuel leak estimated at approximately 20 gallons, along with a hole in the ground where the tree had been struck. Crews worked to contain the spill and secure the scene.
A 47-year-old man was evaluated at the scene and transported to UM Charles Regional Medical Center. Officials indicated the crash may have been related to a medical emergency prior to or during the incident.
Emergency units cleared the scene later that morning after addressing the fuel leak and ensuring the area was safe. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
