PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The new Armory Pavilion at the site of the old Prince Frederick Armory building got the green light to begin site development.
As per the site development plan, when completed, the site will hold a publicly owned and operated 13,500-square-foot open pavilion as well as a public area, recreation space, seating areas and a memorial. The plan also includes updates and renovations to a 5,000-square-foot building that will serve as bathrooms and a storage area. The space will include 64 parking spots.
The site will be able to host food trucks and outdoor events like farmers markets. Planners are also working to find a way to incorporate 600 bricks from the original National Guard site and a commemorative plaque.
Principal Planner Christine Finamore went over the procedure for getting the site plan approved and provided key dates within the approval process.
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the plans under three conditions:
- The approval constitutes a conditional approval, not a final approval.
- Any outstanding agency comments shall be addressed prior to final plan approval.
- This approval will expire in 24 months, unless the final site plan is approved.
The project launches alongside other development projects on Armory Road in Prince Frederick, including Armory Square.

Gee, another place for the homeless and whackos to hang out. The original armory could have been used as a shelter of some kind. Fox Run shopping center is half empty and they’re building a city at Rt. 4 and Dares Beach Road. Your tax dollars at work.
gonna put a couple traffic lights in there too? or just SAY you won’t but do it anyway.
More like a homeless camp.
Forget the useless pavilion. Build a large kids splash pad and playground.
