Prince Frederick, MD โ€“ September 28, 2019 โ€“ Due to the extended period of dry weather, the Calvert County Department of Public Safety is urging residents to use extreme caution when burning.

Though the area has not reached drought level conditions and there is no outright ban on burning at this time, Public Safety recommends citizens be aware of the fire hazard potential and delay burning until conditions change.

โ€œProlonged periods of dry weather can cause fires to burn hotter and faster, becoming harder to control and therefore more dangerous,โ€ said Public Safety Director Jackie Vaughan. โ€œWe know itโ€™s the time of year when folks want to enjoy backyard bonfires or burn yard debris, but we urge residents to protect themselves and their property and avoid taking that risk at this time.โ€
