North Beach, MD – Despite a week dominated by gray skies and occasional rain the North Beach Friday Night Farmers’ Market got underway May 13 under clear sunny skies. The outdoor market—located on 5th Street between Bay Avenue and Chesapeake Avenue—was supposed to start May 6. However, rain, which has been plaguing the region since the month began, forced town officials to delay the opening by one week.
According to the Town of North Beach web site, the weekly outdoor market “offers seasonal delights from local farms. You can sample the wines from our very own Calvert County wineries and purchase by the glass or bottle.”
The town’s guidelines for the market state that vendors “must come from the local area, which means all produce or products sold must originate from a farm or commercially licensed kitchen existing within a 100 mile radius of the town.”
The 2016 market season will run through Friday, Oct. 17. There will be no farmer’s market Friday, July 1. The market is held on a “weather permitting” basis, between 6 and 9 p.m.
In addition to the sale of food and farm products, the activities at the venue include the Classic Car Cruise-in.
Additionally, local music performers entertain passersby.
There is no admission cost and parking is free but on a first-come, first serve basis.
