Prince Frederick, MD โย The Calvert County Commissioners will soon be appointing someone to fill a vacancy on the countyโs Board of Education (BOE). The deadline for applying was Monday, Nov. 17.
According to the Calvert County Commissionersโ Office, 15 citizens have applied for the First Election District seat that was vacated when Joseph C. Chenelly resigned.
The applicants are: Dawn C. Balinski, Frank A. DiGeorge, John W. โJackโ Fringer, Lauretta W. Grier, Wanda Ann Hassler, Theodore Haynie, Vivian Horner, Cynthia Maria Kelly, Culver Sprogle Ladd, Larry Dean Lamson, Anne Fletcher Mychalus, James Casey Piatt, Clifton E. Savoy Jr., Richard David Spigler and Michael Lonier Ward.
Balinski is an incumbent BOE member who was elected to an at-large seat in 2010. She finished third in the 2014 General Election for the two at-large seats and thus was not re-elected. Her current term expires in January.
Fringer, Ladd and Savoy have all previously run for the school board.
Sources close to the story told The Bay Net last week that the appointment is likely to be made by the incoming board of county commissioners. That board, comprised of holdovers Pat Nutter, Steve Weems and Evan Slaughenhoupt along with newcomers Mike Hart and Tom Hejl; will be sworn in Tuesday, Dec. 16.
