Maryland Park Service | Wounded Warrior and Veteran Outreach Program

SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Getting outdoors in Maryland is easier for military families and veterans, thanks to a growing number of Maryland State Park programs designed to reduce barriers and create more opportunities to explore.

From free park access to camping gear and guided experiences, these efforts through the Wounded Warrior and Veteran Outreach Program are helping make everything from a quick trail walk to a full camping weekend. With many military bases across the region, here’s how military families can take advantage.

Free Day-Use Admission For Veterans And Military

Veterans, active-duty service members and Maryland National Guard personnel receive free day-use admission to Maryland state parks with valid identification.

The benefit applies to the individual and includes entrance fees, even at parks that charge per vehicle. Additional facility fees may still apply depending on the location.

Maryland veterans can add a designation to their driver’s license to help verify eligibility for benefits such as free park entry and program participation.

With trails reopening, campgrounds filling and warmer weather ahead, these programs offer a way for Southern Maryland’s military families to take full advantage of the state’s outdoor spaces this season.

Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (Veteran Wellness Program)
