Owings, MD – A two-alarm early morning fire in Calvert County resulted in heavy damage to a commercial auto repair facility, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the blaze on Industrial Drive in Owings was reported at approximately 4:51 a.m. by a passing motorist.
โThe fire was the result of discarded smoking materials in a flower pot in front of the building,โ a deputy state fire marshal reported. โThe fire caused heavy damage to the exterior front of the building. The fire also extended to the interior, causing moderate damage to the buildingโs contents. There was no one at the business at the time the fire was discovered.โ
The businessโChesapeake Auto Repairโsustained a total of $350,000 damage. Fifty firefighters were dispatched to the blaze and brought it under control in 20 minutes.
