Owings, MD – A two-alarm early morning fire in Calvert County resulted in heavy damage to a commercial auto repair facility, state investigators reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, the blaze on Industrial Drive in Owings was reported at approximately 4:51 a.m. by a passing motorist.

โ€œThe fire was the result of discarded smoking materials in a flower pot in front of the building,โ€ a deputy state fire marshal reported. โ€œThe fire caused heavy damage to the exterior front of the building. The fire also extended to the interior, causing moderate damage to the buildingโ€™s contents. There was no one at the business at the time the fire was discovered.โ€

The businessโ€”Chesapeake Auto Repairโ€”sustained a total of $350,000 damage. Fifty firefighters were dispatched to the blaze and brought it under control in 20 minutes.
