On June 19 at 1:49 p.m., firefighters and rescue crews were dispatched to 44500 block of Blake Creek Road for the reported working house fire and fire in the walls in Valley Lee.
Crews arrived on the scene to discover a working house fire in a two-story single family dwelling. Everyone in the home was able to escape without injury.
Fourty-six firefighters from Valley Lee, Bay District, Ridge, Seventh District, Leonardtown and Patuxent River Naval Station helped to battle the blaze. A total of four engines, five pumper tankers, two trucks, one tower, one water supply unit, and two ambulances responded to the call. Units operated on the scene for over three hours.
One firefighter was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with lacerations to his hand. A family of four was displaced an being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The fire resulted from an electrical malfunction. The Maryland State Fire Marshall’s Office continues to investigate.
