LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A 13-year-old golden retriever named Murphy found himself in a tight spot Thursday afternoon, Oct. 23, after slipping down a 20-foot embankment along the water in the 41000 block of Solitude Lane.

Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department’s Squad 1 responded with five personnel around 3:00 p.m. and quickly located Murphy below the cliff. Firefighters safely retrieved the senior pup and returned him to his family without injury.

The crew capped the call with a birthday salute to Buck, the department’s oldest driving member.

No injuries were reported.
