CLEMENTS, Md. – This morning at approximately 9:29 a.m., fire and rescue personnel responded to the structure fire in the 39300 block of Rikiga Lane.

Crews arrived on the scene and found the attached garage of a two-story cape cod home showing smoke and fire. Firefighters had the fire knocked and under control by 9:46 a.m. The fire was contained to the garage.

Firefighters removed the roll up garage door, assisted with opening up, and ventilating the structure. Crews operated for roughly 1.5 hours before going back in service. The firefighters did an excellent job keep the fire from extending into the house.

No injuries have been reported. The cause is unknown at this time.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.

  1. we want to thank the Leonardtown-Seventh District- Mechanicsville- Hollywood and Bay Dristrict VOLUNTEER fire departments for there extremely quick arrival time. They saved our house. it is bad enough but it could have been a lot worse. Thank You

  2. Obviously someone living in there. Was it done under permit? I’m not saying anything wrong was done (I don’t know the cause of the fire), but it could have been a wiring issue not done under permit or by a licensed electrician. If so, insurance may not cover it. There’s a reason permits are required.

    1. That house is 34 years old and was built by code. People should know what they are talking about before they make remarks. The fire was started by a legal surge protector.
