LA PLATA, Md. – Earlier this month, members of the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department and their partners from DES reunited with Chris Lind, a cardiac arrest survivor whose life was saved during an emergency response six months ago.
Mr. Lind suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at his home and survived because of the rapid response, teamwork, and life-saving actions of first responders. Thanks to their efforts, he is alive today.
Mr. Lind and his wife recently met with the firefighters and EMS personnel who played a direct role in saving his life โ a rare and meaningful moment in the fire and EMS profession.
Opportunities like this are uncommon, as first responders do not often get to meet the individuals they save or witness the long-term impact of their work. The reunion served as a powerful reminder of the importance of training, dedication, and teamwork.
The reunion also prompted an outpouring of community support and gratitude, with residents praising the respondersโ commitment, long hours of training, and sacrifices made both on and off duty. Many expressed appreciation not only for the responders themselves, but also for the families who support them through missed holidays, sleepless nights, and demanding schedules.
The department expressed pride in its members and appreciation for its continued partnership with DES, noting that the most important outcome is that Chris Lind is here today, reunited with those who gave him a second chance at life.
