GREAT MILLS, Md. – FOP #7 is saddened by the news of the loss of our dear friend and Brother, James “BIG JIM” Conlon. Big Jim passed away earlier today after bravely fighting illness for some time. Not only was Big Jim a longtime Active Retired member of Lodge 7, but he was also a Past President, and bar manager. During his tenure as President, coming from a larger agency and lodge (DC Lodge 1) his leadership helped effect positive change for the deputies of St. Mary’s County. As bar manager, his time and commitment reinvigorated the struggling business side of the organization.
In addition to retiring from the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department, Brother Conlon also worked as a Background Investigator for the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office for several years, and was instrumental in the recruiting and hiring of numerous SMCSO deputies, correctional officers, and civilian employees, many of whom are still employed by the agency.
Brother Big Jim Conlon was loved and respected by all who knew him, and was most certainly a valuable and legendary figure in the history of our lodge. He will be missed, and he will be remembered.
Brother Conlon’s arrangements will be posted in the comments below.
Please keep His wife Pat, their sons Michael and Kevin, and their extended family and friends in your thoughts.
We will be having a visitation at Rausch Funeral Home in Lusby this Friday, Sept 3rd from 5pm through 7pm followed by a service from Monsignor Sal. For anyone that wishes to attend, please, feel free to drop on by. Anyone that needs additional information, please reach out and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Godspeed Big Jim.
