
Dowell, MD – The former clerk of Calvert County Circuit Court, Audrey M. Evans, has died, her family announced Dec. 6. Evans served several terms as clerk of the court, being first elected in 1976 and retiring in 1998. Evansโ husband, Ted, was part of the Maryland State Police command team. Her son, Mike Evans, is also a retired state trooper and is the current sheriff of Calvert County.
Audrey Evans served as clerk of the court during the years when Calvert Countyโs court system docket began to expand in a measure matching its prodigious residential growth. As clerk she also presided over numerous courthouse wedding ceremonies. For years she was also active in the local chapter of the American Cancer Society.
“Needless to say I am heartbroken,” said current Clerk Kathy Smith. “She was my mentor, a kind, gracious, classy, and generous woman. I am eternally grateful for everything that she taught me about leadership and for her steadfast belief in me.ย She definitely made a profound difference in my life and I have so many wonderful memories. Today, many of her former circuit court clerk colleagues throughout the state contacted me to share their memories and to express their condolences to her entire family. Audrey was truly loved by everyone who knew her.”
Services for Audrey Evans, who was 82, will be held Monday morning, Dec. 11 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Prince Frederick starting at 11 a.m.
