Multiple Suspects Apprehended Following Retail Burglary And Pursuit In St. Mary's County

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Four Washington, D.C., residents are facing felony charges after authorities say they burglarized a Lexington Park liquor store in the early hours of June 8, setting off a police pursuit and multi-jurisdictional manhunt.

According to charging documents filed in St. Mary’s District Court, deputies responded to an alarm at Canopy Liquors on Great Mills Road shortly after 4 a.m. and discovered the glass front door shattered. Lottery scratch-off tickets were found scattered inside and outside the business.

Surveillance footage reportedly captured a silver or light-colored Honda sedan pulling into the lot moments earlier with its trunk facing the storefront. At least three individuals were seen exiting the car, kicking in the door, and entering the store while wearing face coverings.

Once inside, the suspects allegedly tampered with the scratch-off display, removed the tickets and their display cases, and fled. A fourth individual exited the vehicle to assist before the group left the scene heading eastbound on Great Mills Road.

The vehicle description was relayed to patrol officers, and within minutes, a matching Honda was located. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit that ended with stop sticks on Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville. The occupants then fled on foot.

Shortly afterward, a separate silver BMW with Virginia tags was seen leaving a nearby residential area at high speed. Deputies stopped the vehicle and detained a female driver, a male passenger, and two additional occupants — one of whom was shirtless and sweating. Two hoodie jackets visible inside the car reportedly matched those seen in the surveillance footage.

Additional searches, including K9 tracking and assistance from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, led to the detention of other suspects in nearby wooded areas. One suspect, according to investigators, attempted to flee again by vehicle but was intercepted after entering the Drift Inn Crab House area.

Four individuals were charged in the burglary: Ejion Davantai Thorton, 18; Darryl C. Harrison, 22; David Burch, 29; and Javeion White, 18 — all from various Washington, D.C., neighborhoods. Each faces multiple felony counts, including second- and third-degree burglary, theft between $1,500 and $25,000, and malicious destruction of property over $1,000.

Court records indicate Thorton was positively identified through Metro Police photograph records and gave investigators the nickname “Lil E.” Charging documents allege he and others coordinated transportation and meeting points around the burglary via cellphone.

All four defendants appeared before Judge James Tanavage on June 9 for bail review hearings. They were ordered held without bond pending preliminary hearings set for July 8, 2025, in St. Mary’s District Court.
