PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Residents looking to make the most of the final weeks of summer will have several opportunities to enjoy music, history, recreation and family-friendly entertainment throughout Prince George’s County.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s (M-NCPPC) Department of Parks and Recreation has announced a lineup of free and low-cost events scheduled throughout August. Activities include outdoor concerts, a teen festival, a Potomac River dinner cruise, community events and celebrations honoring the legacies of Alex Haley and Chuck Brown.
Outtabounds Teen Fest 2026
The free Outtabounds Teen Fest will take place Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex, located at 13601 Missouri Ave. in Brandywine.
The end-of-summer celebration will feature live DJs, music, basketball, special guests and activities for teens.
Rock the Boat Teen Cruise
Teens are invited to dress in formal attire for the Rock the Boat Teen Cruise on Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 4:30 to 10:30 p.m.
The end-of-summer and back-to-school dinner cruise will include food, dancing and a live DJ aboard a boat on the Potomac River. Space is limited, and jeans are not permitted.
The announcement did not include the cruise’s departure location or ticket price.
Park Police Community Day
Families can meet members of the Maryland-National Capital Park Police during a free Community Day on Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Watkins Regional Park, located at 301 Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro.
The event will include interactive demonstrations, emergency vehicles, games and other family-friendly activities designed to introduce residents to the officers who help protect county parks.
Concerts at Cosca
The free Concerts at Cosca series will continue Thursday, Aug. 13, and Thursday, Aug. 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cosca Regional Park, located at 11000 Thrift Road in Clinton.
Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy outdoor music with family, friends and neighbors. Food vendors will be available, and the concerts are open to all ages.
50th Anniversary of Roots With Chris Haley
Riversdale Historic Site & Museum will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Alex Haley’s Roots on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Chris Haley, a member of the Haley family, will participate in a moderated conversation examining the book’s legacy and cultural impact. Audience members will also have an opportunity to ask questions.
The program will take place at Riversdale Historic Site & Museum, located at 4811 Riverdale Road in Riverdale Park.
Voices of Fairwood
R&B music will take center stage during the free Voices of Fairwood celebration on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Fairwood Community Park, located at 12390 Fairwood Parkway in Bowie.
The event will feature performances by Geno Marriott & the Spirit of Jazz, Julius Rosenwood, Mia Samone and Autumn Labella. The concert is open to all ages.
Go-Go on the Green
Prince George’s County will celebrate the 90th birthday of DMV music legend Chuck Brown during Gather on the Green: Go-Go on the Green on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The free event will serve as the final installment of Concord Historic Site’s summer concert series and is being presented in partnership with the Go-Go Museum & Café.
New Impressions and Next Generation Krank will perform during an evening honoring go-go music, its pioneers and its lasting influence throughout the region.
The celebration will take place at Concord Historic Site, located at 800 Walker Mill Road in Capitol Heights.
