CALIFORNIA, Md. — A Freeze Warning has been issued for parts of the region early Tuesday, though temperatures in Southern Maryland are expected to remain slightly above freezing in most areas.
The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington office issued the warning at 8:45 a.m. Monday, April 20, in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Tuesday.
While some inland areas could see temperatures drop near or below freezing, forecasts indicate lows across St. Mary’s, Calvert, and Charles counties will generally fall into the upper 30s, with colder pockets possible in rural locations away from the Chesapeake Bay.
The warning includes Washington, D.C., and portions of central, northern, and southern Maryland, as well as parts of Virginia, where sub-freezing temperatures could impact crops and sensitive vegetation.
Even in areas that remain above freezing, patchy frost may develop overnight, especially in low-lying or sheltered locations.
Residents are urged to take precautions to protect plants and outdoor plumbing, particularly in colder inland areas where temperatures may dip a few degrees lower.
Temperatures are expected to rebound Tuesday morning as sunshine returns to the region.
