Waldorf, MD – A fire Saturday afternoon, April 9 in Charles County destroyed a detached garage, state authorities reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the blaze occurred at a residence on Shady Hill Lane in Waldorf and was discovered shortly before 4 p.m.
Twenty firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze and brought the flames under control in 15 minutes.
“The accidental fire was the result of fuels igniting beneath a vehicle that was being worked on in the garage,” a deputy fire marshal’s report stated. “The garage was completely destroyed and a nearby 34-foot camper, as well as the residence, sustained minor exposure damage. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.”
The owner of the 30-foot-by-40-foot garage was identified as John Heimier Jr. The estimated loss of the structure and contents is $75,000.
