Glen Burnie Man Killed In Three-Vehicle Head-On Collision After Driving Wrong Way

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A Glen Burnie man was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Dorsey Road near the I-97 overpass on June 27, 2024.

Police identified the deceased victim as 40-year-old Christopher Gianfrancesco, who was driving a 2006 Mazda 3 in the wrong direction on Dorsey Road. Gianfrancesco’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2019 Honda HR-V driven by Arvena Nowell, 49, of Ellicott City.

A 2015 Honda Accord driven by Leonard Addison, 42, of Odenton, was unable to avoid the collision and struck Nowell’s Honda HR-V following the initial crash.

Gianfrancesco was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Both Nowell and Addison were unharmed in the incident.

AACPD’s Traffic Safety Section continues to investigate the crash.

  1. That’s terrible. I can’t remember off the top of my head what the places on Dorsey Rd look like that could allow you to end up on the wrong side, but there are several roads in the Glen Burnie and Baltimore area where it is confusing and you can easily end up going the wrong way on a road. About a month ago I tried to use Google Maps to get from Glen Burnie to Bel Air, and it sent me up Pennington Avenue the wrong way, because it failed to mention the turn you have to make off of it right at the spot where it becomes one way, and it wasn’t obvious at all at that intersection. Luckily it was super early on a Sunday morning, so after driving a couple of blocks the wrong way, I realized it didn’t look right and stopped and turned around, and didn’t encounter another vehicle until I was turning around. Otherwise it could have been a disaster. So, I certainly don’t know the specifics of what happened in this accident on Dorsey Rd, but I do know that there are a lot of issues with road design and signage up in that area that could lead to this kind of accident.
