According to a press release from the office of Maryland Governor Martin Oโ€™Malley [D], two new judges for Calvert County courts were appointed Thursday, Sept. 19.

Mark Stephen Chandleeย has been appointed to the circuit court bench while Michelle Renee Saunders was appointed as a district court judge.ย 

According to the governorโ€™s office, Chandlee has been in private practice since 1992 and a partner in the firm Zoglio and Chandlee, LLC since 2006.ย  Earlier in his career, Chandlee spent three years as an assistant stateโ€™s attorney for Prince Georgeโ€™s County, where he prosecuted cases in the Narcotics Unit and later in the Major Crimes Unit. Chandlee received a law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law and a bachelor of science degree from Frostburg State College.

Saunders has served the majority of her career as a prosecutor in the Calvert County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office, where she currently is chief of the District Court Division. She also has two years of experience in private practice as a partner in the law firm Lamson and Saunders. Saunders is an active member of the Calvert County Bar Association, having formerly served as president and as a member of the board of directors. She received a juris doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and earned her undergraduate degree from High Point College.

All of the newly appointed judges were recommended to Oโ€™Malley by the local trial court judicial nominating commissions.ย  ย
